Bucks trade for Beasley … for some reason
No team has kept forward around for more than two seasons
The news out of Milwaukee has gone from bad to worse.
Following Khris Middleton tearing his hamstring, the Bucks, for some reason, traded for Michael Beasley.
“He’s someone that we’ve kept our eye on the last few seasons and we’re looking forward to watching him compete …” Bucks GM John Hammond said.
Really? The 27-year-old has never played for a team longer than two seasons – even in China. This is Beasley’s sixth stint with an NBA team in nine seasons.
This signing seems like someone throwing a flaming bag of poo, not on the new Bucks arena doorstep, but right into the locker room.
I texted a friend the trade. His response, “Lol.”
Milwaukee has been steadily rebuilding since the 15-67 season in 2013-14 and now this. If the Bucks were simply looking for someone to shoot the ball with no regard to team or chemistry, they found him.
He’s like the gorgeous, psycho girlfriend, always tempting NBA franchises.
One could argue Beasley was serviceable in Houston last year – 20 games, 12.8 points per. One would argue he shot a career high 52 percent.
I would counter that he shot 10 times per 18 minutes.
Another argument for Beasley is that he’s in that sweet spot of athletic prime and, presumably, basketball experience.
I would argue this is year eight.
After his first two seasons in the NBA – he was the No. 2 pick in the draft after one season at Kansas St. – the Heat traded him to the Timberwolves.
Miami went on to sign LeBron James, Chris Bosh and won two NBA titles in four years – oddly enough, losing that fourth title with Beasley during his second tour with the Heat.
Beasley went on from Miami to lead Minnesota to a 17-65 record. He averaged 19.2 points and 2.7 turnovers with the Kurt Rambis coached Timberwolves. His second year with Minnesota was forgettable.
The Suns signed him as a free agent for three years, $18 million and waived him near the end of the first year – amid marijuana possession charges.
Since, he bounced from China to Miami to China to Houston and now Milwaukee.
At least he’s only under contract for one year, $1.4 million. Perhaps the Bucks will trade him to Golden State for Zaza Pachulia.
Then again, this could be a clever ploy by the Bucks to tank for another season. #Brilliant.
